The world ended in 2020 , Y2K happened in 2020

A theory is that the end of the world happened in 2020 and after that the world is just a dream which due to the godly nature of the event has led to people being connected mentally in this dream.

Well, previously it was 2012, because indeed there was an explosion of smartphone usage, Instagram, tinder and so on, which changed things a lot.
2020 is a pivotal point as well, because many governments across the world tried some piece of totalitarian pie with strict control of their citizens, surveillance and various limitations and now can't stop dreaming of implementing that full scale on permanent basis. Before 2020-2022, governments would, at least, pretended to have "higher moral grounds" while doing unpopular actions, now they are pretty much "suck it up, citizen, what will you do?"
