Mackinder (the anglos) see it as Russia being in a position to dominate the world.

Dugin (Russians) see it as Russia being unfairly targeted by coastal civilisations.

The west is scared of Russia's geographic position while Russia feels threatened by being surrounded by hostile civilisations.

I have a theory based on mackinder that takes into account the USA, but it's still only a shower thought right now. I should put it to paper at some point.

Right now I'm thinking of the world in three. Coastal civilisations (Europe, India, China), Step civilisations (Russia, central asia) and the Island civilisations (UK, USA, Japan, etc)

America, England etc, have never had to deal with step invaders, or any invaders really. They were free to mostly be kept to their own devices, explore and trade. That's the thing, TRADE AND EXPLORATION. Anglo saxons are obsessed with scientific progress, building the economy etc.

The coastal civilisations are also interested in trade and exploration but they are much less interested in that, they are also interested in being safe guarded from step invaders. They're scared shitless by mongols, Anglos don't give a shit.

So you have the main difference, Island civilisation is obsessed with making money and innovation, so they build these huge sea faring economic empires to just build as much wealth as possible.

So how do island civilisation view the step? They see them as almost alien, basically exact opposites. They see them as the BIG rival, the final boss in the way of absolute progress.

America basically sees Russia as some videogame enemy, a fun opponent. Coastal civilisations see Russia as an existential threat.
