They've been letting way more users in recently. I made my account 3 months ago and there's been 15k new users since then.

Most users are greycel lurkers. You only see the same handful of users who actually post stuff in off topic everyday. Just look at how many greycels there are on the members online page.

It's honestly kind of nice, it feels like a close-knit community since no one other than the usual people actually try to interact with anyone, I recognise pretty much everyone in offtopic since it never changes.
