Attractive children are perceived to be more intelligent, confident, and well-behaved, and are thus more likely to receive positive feedback and attention from their teachers, parents, and even other children. Additionally, they are seen as more socially competent and are more likely to be welcomed into friendship groups, which can further enhance their social and emotional development. On the other hand, unattractive children are perceived as less intelligent and less social. This bias can begin as early as infancy, where unattractive infant faces may receive more negative affective responses from adults.
