Jfl government approval ratings have improved across the world because of COVID all despite the rampant abuse of power and pointless lockdown messures.

Even if we look past the covid bullshit government approval ratings in general don't seem to obay any logic whatsoever. Basically the media will just brainwash the masses into either hating or supporting the current rulers. In the 1950's socialism was utterly hated by everybody in the west because the media told everybody to hate it, where as now suddenly everybody hates the right because that is now the reigning media narrative. The brainless masses do not think. Approval ratings are meaningless bullshit.

If you terrify the public and make them fear for their safety, they will allow you to implement draconian law enforcement practice, disarm them and keep extensive records on them, and they only have to tell you that it is all to protect you, of course

It's not even just in situations involving fear. The masses in general have absolutely no fucking idea what they are talking about. They do not have educated opinions on most things.
