and why they have beaks instead of mouths. they look more like chimeras than anything. there was also an obscure evolutionary study that refuted conventional taxonomy and argued that monotremes cannot have possibly evolved the way they assumed to. but ofc, i cant find this study anymore, guess it wasnt liked by the hivemind.
