It's just way too crowded everywhere

There aren’t just 500 million humans on Earth because human population has grown massively over thousands of years due to a combination of agricultural advancements, industrialization, medical breakthroughs, and improved living conditions. Early human societies were small because food was hard to come by, diseases spread easily, and survival was uncertain, but once humans learned how to farm and domesticate animals, they could settle in one place, produce surplus food, and support larger communities. Later, the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries massively increased production, trade, transportation, and access to goods and services, while modern medicine drastically reduced death rates by fighting diseases, improving sanitation, and extending life expectancy. All these factors combined meant that birth rates stayed relatively high while death rates fell, leading to explosive population growth especially in the last two centuries. Today, Earth’s population is over 8 billion because technological, medical, and agricultural advances keep supporting more people than ever before, not just 500 million, which was roughly the world’s population around the 1500s before these modern changes kicked in.
