The problem with all of these doomsday scenarios about AI improving itself more and more and more and more is that they don't account for how much processing power you'd need to actually run an AI like this. ChatGPT4 is currently the most 'advanced' AI and it's so resource hungry it has to be run on cloud servers and it's nowhere near AGI level.

We don't know what the system requirements of a true AGI would be.

Well, yeah, but once you can implement AI to iteratively improve the software and hardware of the GPU, which then helps to create even better AI we're a whole lot closer. They're already doing this to some degree.
