When you're in a social circle, at school, in a workplace, etc. make sure you talk to everyone, tell others gossip or "secrets" about other persons, they can be fake or meaningless, it doesn't matter, tell them not to tell others, make it look like you know everything about everyone, this will decrease the chance of them talking shit behind your back.

You can use recording devices or even your phone to record stealthy what others talk about, like you can approach a group of people at school, chat with them for a moment, leave your bag there with the recording device inside, then go to the bathroom. There's a high chance they will then talk about you and you can then listen to the recording and see what they talk about you. If someone is talking shit about you, you can then approach him and say: "Why did you say this stuff about me, this guy told me you said this and this, btw he made me promise not to tell...".
You can also approach the other guys in the group and claim the guy who talked shit about you, also talks shit about them, you can use the information gained from the secret recordings to make it look like people confess to you and tell you everything they talk to others, you can create this way suspicion and split groups, break friendships while appearing to help others.
