Things I wish I knew before bulking from 52kg to 70kg (don't do what I did)

I posted my transformation the other day (52kg -> 70kg).Today I will talk about my mistakes. If you're a skinny guy trying to gain weight, don't do what I did.

Here are 5 things I wish I knew:

1. Starving yourself is the worst thing you can do.
I used to think that being "dry" and seeing veins meant I was aesthetic. I was wrong. At 52kg (182cm), I didn't look like a model. I looked like a terminally ill patient. My lifts stalled, my hair started falling out, and I felt like shit 24/7. Food is not the enemy.

2. Cardio is not your friend when you're underweight.
I was running 10km, playing football for hours, thinking I was being "healthy". I was just burning calories I desperately needed for muscle growth. I cut down cardio to 2x a week (just 20min walk) and my weight finally started going up.

3. You don't need a perfect diet.
I was obsessing over clean eating, avoiding carbs, avoiding fats. Then I just started eating: rice, potatoes, meat, eggs, dairy. Sometimes even a pie before a workout (yes, I ate pie and hit a 95kg bench PR the same day). Consistency > perfection.

4. Your body dysmorphia will not go away just because you gain weight.
I still check my reflection in spoons. I still think I'm "fat" at 10-12% bodyfat. I still have days when I want to starve myself. Gaining weight helps, but it doesn't fix your head. That's a separate battle.

5. The scale is a liar.
I would weigh myself every morning and panic if I saw 69kg instead of 70kg. It's just water, food, glycogen. Stop weighing yourself daily.

Ask me anything about the mistakes I made or how I fixed them. I'm not a guru, just a guy who almost died for a jawline.
