What are some things i need to take into account if i am planning to do a bsso (lower jaw surgery)? As the surgery is covered by insurance do i have any say in it, as in will i be able to say i want more or less advancment? Will there be a big difference between going to a local surgeon as opposed to someone like ramieri?

Huge difference, chances are you got this surgery covered by insurance for medical reasons. The difference between surgery for aesthetics and surgery for medical reasons is night and day. But I guess you could ask them for more advancement and other little things, they probably won't do it though. Good luck.

I am indeed getting the surgery for a overbite. Can i ask you how exactly u a medical bsso differs from a aesthetic one? They would both just try to bring the lower jaw forward for a more alligned bite no?

Yes they would both be bringing the lower jaw forward for a more aligned bite, but the medical one is done SOLELY to correct malocclusion. The aesthetic one is mostly done for the purpose of making you look better. In a cosmetic bsso the surgeon will probably rotate, and prioritize the overall look rather than the minimum for functional correction.

Think of it like you went to a local doctor for orbital decompression vs dr taban.
You do that because you used to have graves disease and you need a 3 wall orbital decompression

if you went to taban
Dr. taban specializes in doing orbital decomperssion with other procedures like bleph and infra implants

If you went to your local doctor he would give you only orbtial decompresion because thats all you technically need

Other surgeons do the same

For example dr. raffai [i forgot his name] always does bigonial implants when doing bimax/trimax
But your average surgeon wouldnt do that obv

However the thing is the average/local surgeon is insured and you dont need to pay

Do you think a rotation will benefit me? First pic i have attached is me closing my teeth normally, second one is me jutting.

I get it in regards to orbital decompression, but how does that apply to bsso? The surgeon is bringing ur lower jaw forward to sit right behind your upper jaw. I dont see how there could be a difference in advancement for example

Its not about difference in advancement
If you got a bsso from rafaini he would give you genio and bigonial implants
But a local wouldnt do that, only a bsso
