ive took note that popular pessimistic philosophers like schopenhauer and other, appear in a period where comfortable living is prioritized, it would be difficult for philosophers like schopenhauer to only focus on the negative in a period where the negative is the norm

i see a picture of a monk like figure, having to bury his own friends, seeing his family die of plague, never once do those types of individuals question the meaning of life, never
yet the modernistic type, whos life is built on the back of succesfull men, struggles to find "meaning"

Makes me think of this classic quote:

1771286885745

The prosperous society forms comfortability, and men want struggle in their lives. Without struggle, a life is unfulfilled, and they grow pessimistic. Life shouldn't be given to you on a silver platter, too boring. Men want to carve their own path, which insinuates struggle.

The opposite goes for an impoverished society.

the only time where the modern person struglled was in covid, even though covid was a mild pandemic compared to the plague and spanish flu, the psychological faculty of our society was heavily affected, in the beggining society was half happy, we had something that increased our risks, like in march 2020, people had a almost a collective high from the danger of the pandemic, bc they had a clear enemy(the virus), a clear mission and a collective purpose which was to protect the earth from being wiped

i noted this in the people near me too, some of the people i knew went from depressed, to somehow wanting to learn new things during quarantine and connect with people, this was prob them creating their meaning through the tragedy

now overtime, the healthcare got better, the pandemic got too long, so the struggle started feeling boring, bc the hard truth was that there was no great sacrifices we had to make in covid, comparable to the plague, families had to ration food and endure week long periods without food, when our greatest fight was to not go outside while everytime around was, was turning simpler
the news started to overexagerate the severity of it, making healthcare workers sound like heroes when they really were just doing their job

like people started making minor inconvenciesec sound catastrophic, i started seeing tiktoks abt people complaining abt not getting hugged in 6 months, being traumatized and their muh mental health, while in the comfort of their own home, there were no bombs, no internet issues and they still had electricity

at teh end people started creating fiction wars like maskers anti maskers, vaxxers anti vaxxers

the pandemic revealed taht our society is truly decadent, the men couldnt calibrate basic suffering, which is on a miniature scare compared to the past, people wanted a struggle but ultimately couldnt handle it
we had everything during the pandemic, but acted like it was the end of the world

the countries that sufffered the most during covid was the richest, meanwhile poorer countries handled it the best

mind the essay, u dont have to read it

Absolutely. Lockdown was great in the beginning, and really grew tedious whenever we were on the cusp of finding a cure.

I won't write an essay (I'm rather tired), but I do believe that the number spirit (and thus human) killer is boredom, and the only cure is struggle. Struggle can come in many forms, but the greatest kind is that which its objective pushes away boredom (Ex: going to gym -> becoming better at sports).
