Pull ups work great for the lats however allows by using a cable machine you workout the full range of motion + a cable machine applies tension throughout the whole range of motion by starting the movement away from your body.

Pull Ups have full range of motion if you do it correctly and are more natural. They result in peak aesthetics and a great balanced body

have you considered that it might not be such a bright idea to base whether an exercise works or not on a roidmaxxer.

Just as long as your elbows stay close to your body and end behind your body it doesn't really matter.

I don't see how this movement wouldn't work for a natural lifter.
