I don't bite down on the belt, I got one of these strong gripping ones
I arch it behind all the teeth on the upper row onto the palatal bone
My maxilla is misplaced and instantly movable, I was able to rotate, protract it and shift it lower
Opening your mouth as wide as possible and jutting also helps but might lead to joint damage if done too often
Keeping the tongue up is much easier if you have better forward growth
