Thoughts on best hair style?

My hair type is 3a,

and when ever i don't soak it in products, (leave on conditioner, shea butter etc) it gets dry and looks like this. When i grow it out it develops like an afro.

this is the style from me doing a close to buzzcut and not cutting it for a while.

Any Advice on how to style it better or ideal hair cut. i have a long mid face or long face in general and narrow smile (6th tooth, i dont have great cheek bones, so my thought process is that having shorter hair would be more ideal to not exaggerate my long face) but idk.
