i want to get a palate expander to get rid of crowded teeth, i have seen contradictory statements
are there risks of descending? asymmetry?

asymmetry is possible at first but im pretty sure it goes away
im getting one soon i recently qualified
just dont expand too wide your nose width could get bigger and eyes too which could be a good thing or a bad thing just depends

what does the asymmetry look like? death-tier? and how does it work? does it exaggerate your current asymmetry, or does it create it out of thin air?
im getting one soon before bsso

asymmetry is possible with most expanders its just a risk that you have to be willing to take if you're wanna get an MSE or any kind of MARPE. (besides maybe FME but this treatment is fairly new and costs upwards to 30k $ and is only available yet in the U.S as fas as i know). Its also irreversible most of the times but also doesnt happen overnight so youre thinking your MSE expands asymmetrically then you can just stop turning the expansion key and consult with your Orthodontist.
Just so you know tooth anchored Expanders wont do jack shit for your bones if you're past puberty so you need something like MSE. Also dont expect it to completely transform your facial aesthetics i havent yet see someone ascend by only doing MSE. Its usually just part of a bigger treatment plan and just piece of the puzzle even if youre palate is super narrow.

Thank you for this, is there a way to reduce the chances of asymmetry or is it completely unpredicatable? my smile is bad thats why im doing it, im class 2 and ill be getting bsso after it.
Also, i read something about slow patalal expansion instead of rapid, should i settle with that in order to ensure that things go as smooth as possible? My midface is already ideal but my teeth are just huge so i need palate expansion despite my palate not being narrow compared to the average person

Well you yourself have little control over it usually happens if the orthodontist doesn't apply it correctly i guess. Not sure if expanding more or less rapidly increases or decreases the risk of asymmetry i can imagine it doesn't really matter. Check out jaw hacks on youtube he's very knowledgeable in this field maybe hes made a vid about this.
Well then MSE makes sense in your case especially if youre getting bsso as well. If you don't mind me asking how much do you have to pay for this whole procedure or does insurance cover it somehow for you?

So if the orthodontist applies it correctly asymmetry shouldn't be a big deal from what I understand?
I managed to convince my parents today, so I don't know how much it's going to cost yet, the money isn't a problem for us thankfully though. I'll check him out, appreciate the help a lot

one side of ur face might be a lil wider

yeah exactly unless if you already have asymmetries they are not going to disappear for example if one side is more pronounced or bigger mse cant fix that i believe, since it pushes into both sides with the same force applied

yeah i would only be worried about asymmetries being created, my bone structure is insanely symmetrical, thank you for all this info it helps me a lot
