I had the same argument with a redditor. He wholeheartedly believed that minor and child were the same thing. He was calling a leaked nude of a 16yo girl child pornography and I said it wasn’t.

I explained that child is someone who hasn’t gone through puberty and is very young. While minor is just someone who isn’t yet an adult according to the country. One is a biological reality, the other is a law term.

The public's perception of what a pedophile is has changed significantly for the worse in recent times.

Originally, it meant being attracted to pre-pubescent girls. This definition is the most correct because it is rooted in a biological reality. Back when the word pedophile was invented, the ages 12-13 were considered somewhat normal for marriage, so obviously they meant prepubescent. Nowadays, pedophile is being intertwined with ephebophile.

I don't even like to say that word, ephebophilia is a stupid word. All men are attracted mid to late teens. If you think you're not, you're just pressured by society to believe that you don't want it and you cope that you don't. But the reality is that if you woke up in the past when no one would judge you, and there was a cute 15 year old girl flirting with you, your "morals" would instantly vanish.

Very recently in the west, the word "pedophile" started to mean being attracted to anyone below the age of consent. A made up line drawn by politicians. Even though a girl a couple years older or younger than the line will likely look the same, and we all know attraction is visual.
