hello buddy, i can give you some advice! how about you close your fucking eyes and get off your pc! ... haha, just kidding

get some physical exercise throughout the day. if you already gym, then walk as well. walking also helps with sunlight exposure, which will help get your natural body clock running again. keep your bedroom cool, or even cold, but keep your feet warm (with socks). dont eat sugar right before bed, and avoid caffeine any later than late afternoon. avoid blue light just before bed. set an alarm in the morning to avoid oversleeping (it doesnt have to be very early, its just to avoid oversleeping! ideally, you should wake before the alarm. open your curtains slightly so you are woken naturally by the sun in the morning).

thats all i can think of now. follow this and you should succeed! i was dealing with nasty insomnia for a while and i think the best thing was forcing myself to stay awake and going to sleep at consistent hour. NEVER GO TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY – it will screw your sleep schedule up completely and youl struggle sleeping at night. also, i think walking and sunlight exposure were beneficial in helping my insomnia. but main thing is the consistent sleeping and alarm in morning to prevent oversleeping

i should also say that i fall alseep within 5 mins max when i have a consistent sleep schedule, along with the habits that i have listed. but when my sleep schedule and habits are bad, i can lie in bed the whole night and be unable to sleep

TLDR:

1. Bright light exposure upon waking and throughout day
2. No lights/ only warm color lights starting 3h before bedtime
3. Sleep and wake at same time everyday
4. Don't eat within 3h of bedtime
5. If needed, take melatonin 2-3h before bedtime. Melatonin only works in conjunction with dimming the lights, it has no effect in bright light

Have you ever done all nighters to reset your sleep schedule?
These past few weeks I've been falling asleep at like 3 am so it's pretty fucked up and I've been considering just tiring myself up by not sleeping to fall asleep at like 10 pm and make that my new schedule

yes bro, thats exactly what i did. it's very painful; my body did not want to readjust to normal sleep schedule and i would be waking up for the next few weeks at 2-4am in the morning, after only getting a few hours sleep, and i would be wanting to sleep in the afternoon. but i stuck in there (going to bed in evening/early night) and soon my sleep was back to good levels.

3am actually isnt that bad. you could gradually reset your sleep by having an alarm that wakes you at like 8-10am. you will soon be so tired that youll be sleeping earlier and earlier each night, until your sleep is back to normal.

3am is pretty bad for me cuz I gotta wake up at 7 am daily, only 4hrs of sleep usually.
I'm gonna try doing the all nighter to fix it, thanks for the tips man

wow, wait a sec. if youre getting up at 7am consistently and still sleeping at like 3am, then all nighter wont fix it. if youre not doing physical activity throughout the day, then you basically NEED to. and if youre drinking caffeine in the afternoon/evening, then you NEED to cut it out. im thinking that phone before bed is also causing issues.

What happens in the time you are lying awake? For me, some times I start thinking of things and can't shut my brain off. It helps maybe to listen to audiobooks, or some story on youtube so you are paying attention to that instead of thinking about how you can't sleep. I've also tried listening to some of the "brainwave" music/videos on youtube to put my brain into rest mode.

i cycle for like 1 - 2 hours a day in windy conditions so i'd say i get my physical activity done for the day and i dont drink caffeine.
i also stop using phones/pcs before 10pm but sometimes i make an exception like rn cuz i got rlly pissed that i couldnt sleep

i just kinda stare at the ceiling
if u ever tried meditating before, its kinda like that, i just stare at the ceiling without any thoughts
i honestly might try the audiobooks like u recommended or maybe even some asmr, might help

I've done the staring at the ceiling thing, and it is not good. I usually end up thinking "gee I wish I was asleep" and "now I'm only going to get x hours of sleep if I fall asleep now". The more you think about how you can't sleep, the more you get too anxious to fall asleep. You can also try talk radio, or something not that interesting to listen to just to distract you. Another thing I try to do is remember some of my dreams and think about the dream as I am trying to fall asleep...like trying to get back into the same dream that I had before. Seems to help sometimes. Good luck.

Edit, one more thing you can also try is doing breathing techniques (you can also do it while listening to audiobooks). https://www.healthline.com/health/breathing-exercises-for-sleep

have you tried any of the breathing techniques?
i've tried the 4-7-8, buteyko and wim hof but they didn't really help

I have tried and used 4-7-8 and it's worked. For me it is having something else to think about rather than me thinking about how I can't fall asleep. When I start getting anxious about not going to sleep, it just makes it worst for me.

when you do the 4-7-8 breathing, on the hold part do you like close ur pipe to stop any airflow or do u just like try not to breathe in or out?

My 4-7-8 is a modified form of it. I don't count or anything. I basically take a deep breath, hold it for a few seconds, than exhale. I don't close my pipe or anything. What I'm thinking about is simply getting into a rhythm. Basically I am just trying to maintain a rhythm, and thinking of the rhythm helps you not think about other things (like how you can't fall asleep). Just focus on getting your breathing into a rhythm, and just think about staying in the rhythm.

I don't have a link because I bought it locally, but I can confidently recommend the brand "now foods", it shouldn't be difficult to find, but if you don't, just search melatonin on amazon

Just wanted to report back and it didn't rlly help I still only got 4 hours of sleep I might just go doctor n. Get pills or something

Sorry to hear, man. If you want to go the pills route, Ambien and Lunesta (prescription) have always worked for me. But be extremely careful as they are addictive. They are a controlled substance in the U.S. I don't use the prescription drugs anymore because I got addicted to them, and it really really sucks to try and kick them. Like you go for days to weeks without proper sleep.

Did you try listening to audio book? How about the "deep wave" sleeping sounds youtube channel?

Alr Ty for the recs

Also nah, I tried asmr n it didn't rlly help but I might try audiobooks before getting meds.
Is audioble good? Idk if that's the name but it's that heavily advertised audiobook app

Well I'll tell you exactly what I did last night and will do shortly.

1. I took melatonin. (I know you have a problem getting it).
2. I turned youtube on my iphone to a warhammer 40k channel (Baldermort) because I like warhammer and the channel just is just stories read by a guy with a soothing voice and a British accent. I put the screen down to avoid lights, and just listen to that. I can sort of get into it but not too into it that it keeps me awake. Then I just listen to that while concentrating on breathing.

So if you have a smartphone just go to a youtube channel that I guess tells stories that you would be interested in and see if that helps.

EDIT:

Another thought, you could try rubbing one out if you aren't on nofap. Seriously, when you coom your body also releases chemicals that help you fall asleep. Just a thought.

I have Tips to Sleep forever.

Yeah, drink nutmeg. 1/2 grounded kernel mix in chamomile tea or warm milk.

Also, supplementing l-theanine can help you relax if that's an issue.
