Tmj problems

I've been having problems in my tmj that causes my jaw to lock if I bite correctly. I can open my mouth if I jut tho and that just causes a little bloat to the jaw, ruining my jawline from the side, my dentist gave me a night guard, that in my opinion is useless as fuck, how is it going to help? I asked her if my bite is ever going to be normal and she replied that that doesn't matter , she didn't even tell me how I should keep my bite at night, the natural one (the locked one) or the one jutting, do y'all have any solutions? dentists are retarded af
