It was at the back of my refrigerator ominously calling for my hand to grab it because I'd just ran out of fresh butter. January 2024, the best-before date read and I thought I was going to try my luck.
It smelled bad but I pressed on and buttered toast with it. When I bit into it, it tasted like fish with an aftertaste of halitosis my dad has, yuck. I did eat each slice of toast because I was hungry. Then I threw the rancid butter into the garbage.
I might wake up tomorrow with food poisoning, hopefully not as bad as when I drank expired milk before.
Don't eat expired food, it tastes awful, just don't. Though I wonder what the expired cream cheese also in my fridge will taste like...
Imagine that people used to eat spoiling food all the time before refrigerators and iceboxes.
