Each to their own my man. I smoked cigarettes for years. Packs a day. I quit cold turkey. I only picked it up after seven years because I was severely depressed.

I know for a fact it’ll ruin my life, I can barely keep my life in order with my dogshit ADHD riddled brain so adding substance abuse to the mix would completely send me over the edge

I just did social smoking once a month at most from 13 until 20, so 7 years of "nah nicotine isn't that addictive" but problem with cigarettes is how incredible benign they are, it just took me having a depression at 20 that i decided to smoke with friend in my house and from this point my brain started associating my home with smoking now, death sentence, cigarette addiction thrives on habits. You ate a meal? Time to savor it with a cigarette, you woke up in the morning? Gotta have my first ritual cigarette on the balcony etc. It doesn't help at all how cheap ciggs are and how not stigmatized they are in Europe as well. I also quit cold turkey for over a year and then just had a small craving one day cause my brain remembered me smoking on that balcony on a beautiful spring day, i told myself eh one cigarette would be fine, im definitely not addictive now, and this is how it beggings again slowly. I've quite cold turkey again for months now but i never gurantee it will last forever. OP should never ever start, cigarettes are the most deceptive addiction, you may quit for 1, 2 or even 5 years but just some event can trigger your brain and you start again, its a fight for your whole life. People that do quit and manage never do it again are unironically low T high inhib, for the reason that in reality cigarettes are by no means destructive short term, you need very high inhibitions to worry about cancer post 60, so this is the additional problem why they are worse then meth, at least meth has immediate disgusting consequences that make you panic and have huge motivation to quit, but cigarettes unless you are a giga hypochondriac are hard to get conviced so hard to never touch ever again

Unironically i used meth for adhd and never got addicted to it, meth is one of the most misunderstood drugs, the key with it is only ORAL and in therapeutic doses. Meth doesnt have a huge tolerance increase, its gradual, each day the effect is less and less and by one month its half as good as when you began, but just simply do a 15 days break and repeat. Meth breaks are actually quite easy with small oral doses, you only feel extremely sleepy for 2-3 days and ridiculously hungry, then 5 more days of a meh energy, and at about 8-10 days you feel 90% normal. By 15 days its 100%, normalcy

I also started smoking at 13. Started off at social smoking but I never had any “wake up, smoke” moments. I only smoked at school and after school. Never when I was home (scared of parents). It’s true, smoking cigarettes is not stigmatized here. Many young women smoke as well. At the school I went to most smokers were young women actually. I remember a somewhat cute Dutch girl came up to me asking me if she can have a cigarette. I said sure. Not because I’m a simp but I just give when I am asked. I have given it to guys to whenever asked.

Yeah reason why nicotine is extremely deceptive in addition in bullet form:

1. Very benign high (2-3 minutes of a nicotine relaxation while you look and act completely normal, its the drug with zero obligation, opposite of lsd, you can smoke it in any situation and act NT, normal etc. So it doesn't envoke such a feeling as "okay, what im about to do is definitely bad, this will change me for the rest of my life mentally", but cigarettes don't, they are such a passing meh feeling)

2. No stigma in Europe, France for example is pandemic with smoking same as Italy and Eastern Europe, nobody would even think anything wierd if you smoke, thats a huge american zoomer thing

3. Giga easily accessible and cheap

4. The bad consequences are quite far away in the future, so if you are not high inhib, it doesn't have the same motivation of quitting with the willpower of a mountain like some hard drugs do, cause you know how life changing it is when you quit something like heroin. Quitting cigarettes barely has short term life changes, eh you breathe easier, have no smoker breath. Thats pretty much it
