I remember there was this japanese cartoon Doraemon whose developers made a fake secret last chapter which depicted that Nobita had cancer and all the series he was dreaming. They say litterally people in Japan committed suicide after learning about it and stuff like that even though it wasn't a canon episode.

Even Shinchan had a similar a dark ending. It was apparently the schizo episodes of the protagonist's mum that lost both shinchan and Shinchan's sisten in an accident. The entire series was just thr drawings and imagination of the mom thinking about her kids

Man japanese writers have some serious trauma. All those characters and fun thematic hide a lot of unspoken societal traumas of their own people after WW2 imo
