Took braces instead of Palate Expander

Before i knew much about dental shit i was unhappy with my very tight and crooked teeth. So i asked for braces, got them my teeth are straight now.
But should it have been a palate expander instead? I feel my tounge hitting both sides of my teeth. What are the bad effects of this and is it too late to expand my palate?

never to later to expand as there are sugery assisted expanders and yes expand

Better then traditional braces, if your palate is narrow you can still expand, what's your age?
