Introduction:
​

As we all know, a beard can make a hell of a difference. Not only is it a key dimorphic feature, but it can also be used to conceal structural weaknesses. Just compare those two images:

In one, Gosling looks like a prepubescend child, while in the other he looks more mature and developed. Of course, this is not the case for everyone, that is something you will have to figure out on your own.

Approaching the problem we are trying to solve: Not everyone has enough beard growth to just rock a beard - including myself. Beard growth is genetically determined by androgen levels and androgen receptor expression in the beard area. To combat this, many people make use of topical and/or oral minoxidil but this has a caveat:

Minoxidil does not express its effects permanently. For its effects to work, you have to use it indefinitely which is not only inconvenient but can also get quite expensive. This can be solved using topical androgens, which is the topic of this guide.

Mechanism:

Now that we have gotten behind why beard growth is desirable in some people and why Minoxidil is not an ideal solution, we have to get into the Mechanism as to how androgen mediated beard growth actually works:

Androgens harness the hair follicle’s unique regenerative ability to replace many tiny vellus hairs with larger, darker terminal hairs (e.g., beard). Follicle response is epigenetically varied: some remain unaffected (e.g., eyelashes) or are inhibited, causing balding[1].

Androgens exploit the exceptional regenerative capacity of the hair follicle’s regular growth cycles to carry out these striking changes. These cycles allow repeated rounds of regeneration that involve the destruction of most of the lower follicle (catagen), a period of rest and recovery (telogen), and shedding of existing hairs (exogen) followed by the development of replacement lower follicles and hairs (anagen)[1]. Unlike Minoxidil mediated hair changes, those changes are permanent.

Usage
​

For the ideal androgen receptor activation, we want to use as strong of an androgen as we can get our hands on. I am going to be describing the process with MTren (methyltrienolone) here as it is the strongest somewhat available androgen there is. When working with a weaker androgen, you might want to increase the dosage based on the difference in androgenic rating between the compound of your choice and MTren.

Things needed:
- 5mg Injectable MTren
- 2ml 100% DMSO
- 50ml Castor oil (optional, can use water instead)

Process (got this from reddit[2], may need some testing/improvement in the future):
- Mix MTren and DMSO in a glass container
- Microwave for 50 seconds
- Swirl around / mix
- Let it cool down
- Add 50 ml Castor oil / Water

Apply the minimum amount needed to cover the desired areas 1-2x a day.

Risks / Risk avoidment

The given risks are honestly quite simple and easy to avoid:

- Skin irritation: Moisturize, take it like a good boy for the time it takes to grow your beard
- Acne / Sebaceous gland stimulation: Retinoids (either Tazarotene, Tretinoin or Isotretinoin/Accutane)
- Systemic absorption: As soon as you notice significant systemic effects, reduce the dosage. Titrate down until the systemic effects stop.
