Anyone in here had side effects with oral finasteride but did fine with topical one?
I took oral for few days and I felt like a trans / had to stop due to sides but I am now accelerating toward nw2 and it's depressing.
I had tests done and hormones are ok.

on the internet everybody gets side effects from everything

Go check Kevin Mann on youtube, he debunks this bs about side effects.

there is a thread about topical finasteride on "that other forum" and it quotes a study that demonstrates that topical finasteride lowers serum dht to a almonst non existable degree. so in theory you shouldnt get any real side effects (nocebo is another story)

Hmm? Topical finasteride does go systemic and lowers serum DHT as much as oral Finasteride does. The only advantage is that Finasteride offers more scalp DHT reduction.

If you get side effects on 1mg oral Finasteride, you'll also get them on the 1mg topical Finasteride. But since it offers more scalp DHT reduction, you can reduce the dosage (let's say 0.5mg), which will STILL offer you better scalp DHT reduction while notlowering serum DHT as much. This is the only case where topical Fin reduces chances of side effects.

Source of the chart is : Effects of a novel finasteride 0.25% topical solution on scalp and serum dihydrotestosterone in healthy men with androgenetic alopecia

weird

guess we have contradicting studies then

"The combined solution also had minimal effect on plasma dihydrotestosterone levels, approximately 5% reduction. There were also no systemic adverse events reported by patients in both groups."

They didn't specify the exact dosage of Finasteride that they used, though. It says 0.25%, but that simply means that for each 1mg of Minoxidil, they used 0.25mg of Fin I guess?

Either way, Topical fin is safer than oral especially when you take advantage of the fact that you can get better results as lower dosage.

Another study showing again different results at 0.25%. While my chart shows a serum DHT reduction of up to 40%, yours is about 5%, and this study I just found is about 19%. I guess it's not really clear how much Finasteride will go systemic when applied topically... either way, it's safer than oral.

" Once-a-day use of the 0.25% topical finasteride resulted in much a less severe decrease in DHT plasma levels (19%) that those seen in patients using the pill once a day (70%) or twice daily use of either topical or pill form. Our blend (circled in blue) uses a lower percentage of finasteride than that used in this study and our patients only use the blend once (not twice) daily [...] significant change in serum testosterone levels detected with either treatment [...] follow-up study showed the topical solution reduces scalp DHT levels by about 70%."

you right they dont specify the dosage in the abstract - guess you have to read the full study for that info
