Some interesting stuff I have been reading up on for awhile. Just theoretical obviously, source material is mostly Nick Land.
The theory goes like this, the merging of ai with humans is pretty close to inevitable, Once something such as advanced form of a neurolink is developed, since it would provide a signficant advantage to your value in the economy, (aka u will make more money with it), adoption, first but people looking for any advantage would adopt it, legal or not, and then to compete, mass adoption would occur. One this happens, slowly and slowly humans will think less, and ai will think more. You could live videogame lives in VR, play videogames in ur head while u do ur wagie job, etc etc. Humans will lose their identity as humans and slowly morph into just an AI singularity, what Nick Land calls the next step in human evolution. At that point, there would probably be a lot less suffering in the world, but at what cost? Don't really see an alternative outcome to this either. Even with heavy regulation, it wont stop people looking for a competitive advantage. Keep in mind stimulants are often used by zealous people to increase their productivity already, with something far more useful than drugs, it only goes to say that this will be adopted, in secret, or not. Then the domino chain is set off as we slowly become less and less human and more machine.
Not in my lifetime, but still interesting to think about
