Studies have shown that 0.3% adapalene can provide similar results as 0.5% tretinoin if i remember correctly, while being less irritating. It's a newer generation of retinoid.

In the US 0.1% adapalene is available over the counter and 0.3% prescription only.

In the EU all adapalene is prescription only i think.
