There's a term in American politics that has gained a lot of traction it is called TACO-Trump always chickens out. I made a thread on this btw. No one I personally know is losing their job. 15-20 million for tech companies to retain their teams is like asking some kid to pay 10 cents more to keep their toys. The only ones I've seen being affected are the ones in poorly funded startups
