yes, they could flatten iran if they wanted too, but it would cause devestation in the united states' economy
not only that, but if iran goes down, chinas greatest supplier for oil goes down, which means china will step in, which isnt good.

back in the korean war, when china saw that north korea was losing and the americans were pushing them near the chinese border, they feared that the americans just wouldnt stop and would keep going into china.
its somewhat of a similar situation here, as we previously discussed, iran is the main supplier of chinas oil.
if china sees that iran is starting to 100% lose, i think they would step in with military aid.
