I am getting a septoplasty soon, I asked the surgeon not to do turbinate reduction out of fear of Empty Nose Syndrome. Should turbinate reduction always be avoided? ENS is unironically the worst fate on Earth so that's what I'm thinking.

ALWAYS avoid it

The nose is very delicate. Even a septoplasty is a huge risk

Good luck incel

I wouldn’t be concerned too much either way if the doc doing the septoplasty is board certified plastic surgeon or ent doc with plastics fellowship. Turbinate reduction is not necessary either if the corrective procedure is for deviated septum. It’s just a tack on procedure to bill extra for relatively easy add on as deviated septum is covered by insurance along with turbinate reduction.

They don’t have to do it even they put it in the charts they did it to make a little extra, so you might want to mention to your doc that you want to avoid turbinate reduction at all costs but they can put it in charts and might do it if it’s absolutely necessary. That way they get their money and you’re being diplomatic.

even with top surgeon its not worth the risk unless ur turbinates are literally killing u or something imo

I wouldnt risk. I've seen some threads that people who got ENS after turbinate reduction consider suicide. Dont know if it genuine tho

i do but i dont think its really cause of turbinates, even if it is id never risk turbinate reduction unless 1000% necessary

does this have any risk of empty nose syndrome too?
I don’t think so if u find something out could u tell me ima do some research

I cancelled my septoplasty cuz the jew doc wanted to touch my turbinates

DO NOT DO THIS

Your turbinates are REQUIRED for you to feel the sensation of air going through your nose, humidification, filtration, etc. The problem with turbinate reduction is that the nerves in the turbinates are very small and intricate so it's difficult for the surgeon to avoid damaging them during surgery. And if they are damaged, then you're fucked with empty nose syndrome.

Enlarged turbinates are likely the result of an allergy, see an allergist instead for that and find a surgeon who will only fix the septum.

I wouldn't risk it unless they are extremely enlarged

What’s your opinion on adenoids removal

do research nigga please is it linked to ENS
i don't think an adenoidectomy could cause ENS, ENS is mostly linked to turbinate reduction
