basically i had twin blocks from 12-13 and they are great (paired with palate expander) and got braces after

just want to promote them to anyone considering them or with severe lower third issues, this is a solid alternative to surgery

Twin blocks are great for people as young as yourself, since your mandible is still growing, which is why their effects on you are so visible. However, outside of your age bracket they are generally ineffective, in terms of mandibular advancement disregarding TMJ issues and overall bite positioning. It's not a "solid alternative to surgery".

it doesnt support growth, it repositions the mandible

You're incorrect. You should be more educated on the topic, as you have had them yourself.

Younger people like yourself experience more benefits than adults because the Herbst appliance holds the mandible forward during puberty, when you're still growing. It allows adaptive condylar remodelling and skeletal modification. It doesn't just reposition it, but enhances mandibular growth throughout puberty. Its definitely not an alternative to surgery.
