People often type “estrogen” instead of “estradiol”, as if estrogen is estradiol. Estrogen includes anything estrogenic not just estradiol, I assume. It’s like calling testosterone “androgen”.

People say “genes” when they mean alleles. All humans have the same genes it’s the alleles that differ.

It is annoying when people say Estradiol when they mean only 17 beta-estradiol and not 17 alpha-estradiol because it does not bind to the estrogen receptor.

The terminology around 'genes' has changed at least once over the past 50 years. I was taught that animals and plants were selected and cross breed based upon their genes. no care about alleles.
