Planes were just reconnaissance tools in the First World War. And drones are MUCH more impactful than tanks were in that war. Most comparable thing is the machine gun, which changed war from being the open field napoleonic style warfare to trenches.


But personally it’s more like the tank, atleast for the future. Right now no one has a true doctrine for the drone, so theyre all just camped down in trenches unsure of what to do with the drones apart from survive it and throw it at the enemy while youre at it.

In the future, someone will make a drone doctrine like Heinz guderian made the armoured thrust doctrine for the blitzkreig, and revolutionise war yet again.

Btw modern armies still used said ww2 armoured thrust doctrine from nearly 100 years ago, and the US still continues to invest in tank/jets/carriers, which are made for a war from 100 years ago. I predict the US will fight some drone-using powerful country (likely China) and get thier shit rocked like France did against thr much smaller German army in ww2, simply because they were fighting the last war.
