Welcome kings.
This guide is for those of you blessed and cursed with real curly hair—not wavy, not slightly curly, not coily. I’m talking Type 3A to 3C curls. Think North African, Southern European—if you know, you know.
DISCLAIMER: If your hair isn’t this type and you follow this guide, you’re probably just going to damage your hair and hurt your looks. This is niche advice for a niche elite group.
As a North African growing up in a country that glorified silky smooth hair, I was constantly told to cut it short, use gel, tame it... all that did was ruin my hair and self-esteem. It took years of trial and error to figure out what I’m now gifting to you for free.
What Will We Cover?
- Understanding your curl type
- Essential products (with my top picks)
- Haircuts that work with curls—not against them
- Styling techniques that elevate your looks
- Maintenance for god-tier consistency

Your hair is not like other hair. Try to brush it dry? Bird’s nest. Try to slick it back? Disaster. Your first task: understand your curl pattern.
Quick breakdown:
- 3A: Looser, shinier curls — more prone to flattening
- 3B: Medium curls, high volume
- 3C: Dense, tight curls — requires more moisture
You also need to know:
– How oily is your scalp?
– Does your hair absorb water easily?
– Is your frizz explosive or manageable?

Must-haves:

Optional add-ons (choose based on your goal):
- Leave-In Conditioner: Adds moisture, detangles
- Curl Cream: All-rounder for moisture + light hold
- Gel: Defines and locks in curls — scrunch until silent!
- Mousse: Adds volume and puffiness

Read this twice: DON'T GO TO RANDOM BARBERS.
Old-school, Turkish, military-fade barbers will RUIN curly hair. Go to a salon or a curly-experienced modern barber.
Avoid:

Instead, go for:
- Short “Greek curls”: Shorter front, longer sides/back
- “Broccoli” hair: Long fringe, tapered fade — misunderstood but elite for teens
- Long curls: Pair with undercuts and front taper for that modern flex
- Middle-part/Flowing: Let your curls flow like you were born to rule

We all want the same end goal:

Choose your focus:
– Definition: If your hair is puffy → define it to control it
– Volume: If your hair is flat → boost it with mousse/scrunching
Product combos:

Technique time:

Simple, good for volume. Scrunch and let air dry or diffuse. Done.

Brush upward → curl downward. Faster than finger coiling, less definition.

Twist strands individually with fingers. Takes time but results in majestic, jaw-dropping curls.
"Omg your hair is so unique" — get ready to hear this weekly.
⏱ Takes ~15–20 mins. Worth it.
