You would call a Somali person a Somali, not a Somalian. In a similar vein, you would call someone from Afghanistan an Afghani, not an Afghanistanian.
We make the same mistakes in Dutch. We usually say “Somaliër,” (“Somalian”) but it’s “Somalisch.” (“Somali”).
Someone from Afghanistan is just “Afghan.” Afghani is the currency they have or how we South Asians pronounce it.
