1.Introduction to facial fat pads

Photo 2024 08 10 03 02 00

If you have an iq over a room temperature ( in celsius scale ) you will know that the bones are not only the major part that affects your face. your facial muscles , tissue , fat pads , skin are also the real stuff that can make or break your face . if you know this then proceed further now

Facial fat pads are pockets of adipose tissue which are located under the skin of your face. Unlike the continuous layer of subcutaneous fat found on the rest of your body, facial fat is divided into specific sections separated by fibrous bands called ligaments .These pads give the face its volume, its youthful contour, and smooth transitions between different facial features.

Really important you will lose as soon as you age can only be regained with fat transfer and another option is volufiline which is cope mostly and can only preserve bit by healthy lifestyle

so what does facial fat pad does in health aspect

1. Help gliding of muscle during movement

2 .Helps in sensitive facial muscle

Facial fats are two types superficial and deep fat pads

Superficial : The facial fat pads are separated by fibrous septa, thin walls of connective tissue. This separation is important for each fat pad’s function and appearance.

Deep fat pads: contain subcutaneous white adipose tissue (sWAT) separated by the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) in the midface and the superficial temporal fascia in the temple. Boundaries of these deep fat pads are created by facial muscles and retaining ligaments

Layer
Location
Key Compartments
Primary Role
Superficial
Just under the skin, above the facial muscles
Nasolabial (laugh lines), Malar (cheek), Jowl, Infraorbital (under eye)
Provides soft tissue shape, moves with facial expressions
Deep
Beneath the muscles, resting directly against the facial bones
Buccal fat (lower cheek), Deep Medial Cheek, SOOF (upper cheek/under eye)
Acts as the structural foundation and support for the face

So we can tell that facial fat pad is necessary for facial support so face won't sag down and important for soft tissue shape and also for different type of facial expression and also helping to make face dynamic
see how fat transfer change this old woman face giving that contour , support and youthful look

So we know now how facial fat affects our face and looks its imp for volume contour and support of our face and also for youthfulness but we need right fat in right amount so
───────────✧───────────────────

2.Know on which parts of the face its lies on

So don't think too much facial fat pads is important so where does this lies on. these are total 7 of them and 7 are categorize into 2 section superficial and deep and these are the 7 main one there are other important and niche fat pads which i will talk in next part

Section 1 : superficial fat pads sub sections

1. Malar Fat Pad

The malar fat pad sits over the cheekbones and helps the mid face to look young. As we age, this fat pad can move down, making look older duh. Knowing about the malar fat pad is key for face rejuvenation treatments.
Anatomy and Function

Location: Positioned over the zygomatic and maxilla bones,

Structure: Composed of interconnected fibroadipose compartments tightly adherent to the skin and loosely attached to underlying muscles.

2. Nasolabial Fat Compartment

Nasolabial fat compartment is a long, superficial strip of fat running directly alongside the nose down to the corners of the mouth. It sits right next to the malar fat pad, but while the malar pad forms the fullness of the upper cheek, the nasolabial fat rests directly above your smile lines

1785046321238

3. Infraorbital Fat Pad

The infraorbital fat pad is very important. It can change with age, causing dark circles or bags. location : Infraorbital fat pads are the orbital adipose tissue compartments located beneath the eyes that cushion the eyeballs

1785046587206

Section 2 : Deep facial fat pads sub sections
1. Buccal fat pad

Buccal fat pad (also known as Bichat's fat pad) is a deep, mass of fat in the cheek split into three lobes and four extensions, Important fat pad in my opinion it is the real reason why some ppl can have baby face appearance
a fat you wanna lose

1785047289080

2.Deep Medial Cheek Fat

The deep medial cheek fat is a midfacial fat compartment located directly on the maxilla bone
Located deep beneath the orbicularis oculi muscle and upper lip elevator muscles.Divided into two distinct areas: a medial component abutting the pyriform space/membrane and a lateral component lying on the maxilla.Separated from the buccal fat pad laterally and bounded by facial retaining ligaments.

1785047788679

3.Submental Fat Pad

The submental fat pad is a layer of fat under the chin that causes a double chin which is right under the chin above the neck muscle (platysma)

also a fat pad which you wanna lose can occur because either you're recessed or you're fat

1785048002597

4.Temporal Fat Pad

It is the fat pad in temple this also looks worse as you age it is located around facial temples it comes in two layer

Superficial layer: Sits right under the skin and outside the superficial fascia, giving the temple a smooth and full look.

Deep/Interfascial layer: Packed between layers of the deep temporal fascia right above the zygomatic arch and the temporalis muscle.

I talked the 7 main i will talk even more stuff in upcoming true guide there are other area you will see and you will see in depth and you will even see the counter for down sides of each race and fat pads . And i will be including animations for better understanding

───────────✧───────────────────

3.Know how your ethnicity affects it

Yes these will be only for 7 one i will just keep it short in table so i can ramp up the trailer : used ai in here to give it don't worry in the full one it won't be ant table and i will tell what it is and give indepth explanation AND THESE WILL BE THE RACE I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT

1. MalarThins early; reveals cheekbone angularity but can look offHeavy and thick; masks bone angularity but ages very slowly.Moderate volume; prone to early downward migration.Dense and compact; highly aesthetic retention on the cheekbone.
2. NasolabialDeflates; folds are caused by thinning skin, not heavy fat.Pushed downward by the weight of the heavy malar fat.Deepens early due to volume pooling in the lower face.Very resilient; remains flat and supported by the maxilla.
3. InfraorbitalHigh risk of rapid hollowing and dark circles under the eyes.Bulges slightly over time but strongly resists hollowing.Extremely prone to early volume loss and severe tear troughs.Maintains volume effortlessly; supports the lower eyelid well.
4. BuccalAtrophies naturally; easily creates the coveted "hollow cheek."Large and wide; prevents cheek hollowing even at low body fat.Persistent; contributes to lower face roundness and softens the jaw.Plump but well-supported by a naturally wider jaw structure.
5. Deep MedialDeflates rapidly; drops the midface and loses structural support.Flatter skeletal base means fat relies heavily on soft-tissue support.Deflates early; removes midface support and increases jowling.Highly stable; prevents a sunken appearance in the midface.
6. SubmentalLow in youth; jawline blurs later due to loose neck skin.Pools under the jaw if the chin is recessed, blurring the jawline.High genetic tendency to store fat here; kills the gonial angle early.Stores some fat, but masked by a thicker dermis and muscle bands.
7. TemporalRapid hollowing; creates a "peanut" head and narrows the upper face.Maintains volume well into older age, keeping the face wide.Moderate volume loss; noticeable primarily in advanced age.Highly resistant to hollowing; keeps the upper face perfectly square.

1. MalarProminent anteriorly; deflates before the jawline, flattening the midface.Heavy volume; can obscure high cheekbones unless very lean.Extremely heavy and robust; significantly widens the midface.Maximum density; thick fat layer completely masks skeletal angularity.
2. NasolabialProminent folding exacerbated by heavy lower-face fat.Folds deepen from the descent of heavy midface fat.Very thick; folds form due to the sheer weight of the cheek fat.Deep folds form purely from the high volume of adjacent facial fat.
3. InfraorbitalProne to severe, early volume loss and under-eye bags.Moderate hollowing; generally delayed compared to Caucasians.Extremely resilient; hollowing and dark circles are very rare.Deeply padded; zero hollowing, keeping the midface completely full.
4. BuccalRemains full; creates a bottom-heavy face that obscures the jaw.Plump and resilient; strongly resists hollow cheek formation.Very large; creates a structurally wide and dense lower face.Massive volume; hollow cheeks are essentially non-existent.
5. Deep MedialEarly deflation exacerbates the appearance of under-eye bags.Moderate deflation; causes the superficial malar pad to lose support.Very stable; provides an immovable base for the heavy superficial fat.Extremely stable; midface remains pushed completely forward.
6. SubmentalVery prone to under-chin pooling; blurs the jawline very early.Accumulates fat; blurs the neck-to-jaw transition.Stores fat, but massive bigonial bone width often stretches it out.High accumulation, but matched by massive, wide jaw bones.
7. TemporalModerate hollowing; narrows the forehead over time.Mild hollowing; occurs very late in life compared to Europeans.Very thick; keeps the upper face wide and structurally sound.Very thick; maintains a wide, rounded head shape permanently.

1.Introduction to facial fat pads

View attachment 5417979

View attachment 5417970

so what does facial fat pad does in health aspect

View attachment 5418067

3. Infraorbital Fat Pad

The infraorbital fat pad is very important. It can change with age, causing dark circles or bags. location : Infraorbital fat pads are the orbital adipose tissue compartments located beneath the eyes that cushion the eyeballs

View attachment 5418075

Section 2 : Deep facial fat pads sub sections
1. Buccal fat pad

Buccal fat pad (also known as Bichat's fat pad) is a deep, mass of fat in the cheek split into three lobes and four extensions, Important fat pad in my opinion it is the real reason why some ppl can have baby face appearance
a fat you wanna lose

View attachment 5418087

2.Deep Medial Cheek Fat

The deep medial cheek fat is a midfacial fat compartment located directly on the maxilla bone
Located deep beneath the orbicularis oculi muscle and upper lip elevator muscles.Divided into two distinct areas: a medial component abutting the pyriform space/membrane and a lateral component lying on the maxilla.Separated from the buccal fat pad laterally and bounded by facial retaining ligaments.

3.Submental Fat Pad

The submental fat pad is a layer of fat under the chin that causes a double chin which is right under the chin above the neck muscle (platysma)

also a fat pad which you wanna lose can occur because either you're recessed or you're fat

View attachment 5418101

Fat PadCaucasian (Northern/Western)East AsianSouth AsianAfrican / Afro-Caribbean
Fat PadMiddle Eastern (MENA)Latino / MestizoIndigenous AmericanPolynesian / Pacific Islander
