Realised I wouldn’t save any money

Been looking at teaching English in China, because the salaries are similar to UK, but you need to do a TEFL course and I cba, and idk if the shit cheap ones online will count

I’m living with parents in UK. I wouldn’t want to move out but stay in UK - I’d only move out for a new experience, or stay here

Anyway, my manager is gonna contact me about other positions elsewhere (technically not unemployed, cos I wasn’t fired, the client just didn’t want me at that site anymore), but I don’t wanna stay in security

I have bad news to share. You won’t be able to teach English without a degree anymore. It was possible in the 2000s, lots of people did this. But nowadays they require you to have a degree. I can’t pull it off because they only hire white people. They make exceptions for Americans/Brits/Australians/Canadians POC.

Damn, that’s awesome. Even if you have a degree, you need to go through a 4 year program anyway. You can get exemptions for some subjects if you already did something similar with an earlier bachelor’s, but you’d still be studying for like at least 2,5 years.

The cost of living is low, but it’s still bad compared to China, or even Vietnam. So I won’t accept this offer, and will instead try and get to China, and can always apply for Thailand later if I wanted

I would be really tempted to go, but ultimately, I’d decide against it because I don’t want to move away to a foreign country. Hopefully you get an offer from China, maybe you can contact schools and ask about it? Didn’t know you had a degree in marine biology, that’s nice. I don’t have any degree at all. But even when I do get mine eventually, I’ll just stick to teaching jobs in The Netherlands. Where in Thailand would you be, BTW? In Bangkok, another city or a rural area?

The reasons I’ll likely turn it down are because 1) won’t save any money, so will break even for the year, 2) I’d rather wait and try and get TEFL qualified and get a job in China. I could always go to Bangkok and then look for China jobs, but I don’t feel like doing that, and 3) I have no teaching experience and don’t feel confident. That’s a pretty shitty pay to say the least. You would make more doing pizza deliveries. I would have turned it down as well. Don’t worry about having no teaching experience and not feeling confident. Pretty much every teacher feels that way. Especially the first five years. But yeah, science teachers are in demand. It’s easier to get a job even in the west. Language teachers are dealing with a lot of competition. Option two is your best bet. As you know, I’m studying to become an English teacher myself. ESL.

Yes it's pretty easy to get a teaching degree here and if you got high or some what good enough grades in highschool it's free but I heard the pay is shit compared to here even though they have better economy

The pay is pretty good here in The Netherlands. But you can’t easily get one. You go through four years of schooling and simultaneously you’re doing internships every year. Half a year in the first year, entire year in the second year, and probably the same goes for the third year and the final year. I’m not complaining as it really prepares us for the job.
