They were generally cannon fodder compared to the Wehrmacht I believe, most of the times they were the opposite of being ELITE. Something I always find funny is the Wiking SS division where all Nordic soldiers were used up as cannon fodder by 1942 already lol.. didn't take long for that unit to stop being anything to do with Vikings yet the name remained even though it got destroyed repeatedly.. just kind of funny to me.
