Og thread

There are a few points I did not touch on that I would like to go into a bit deeper, so I am writing this follow-up thread.

People like to compliment others due to the idea that they need to prove that they are a "good person".

A typical way to compliment someone is to call them pretty, this is why you will see people (usually women) comment under posts of conventionally unattractive girls calling them pretty.

This is a generally mutalist interaction the girl complimenting will feel accomplished and like she helped someone and the unattractive girl will get more fuel to cope with her looks.

This is not a terrible problem but it's a problem when children grow up getting complimented for their looks and they internalize that looks are the only things that matter. This probably happened to lots of people here, you saw your peers getting complimented on your looks and wondered why you weren't getting the same treatment.
