throughout my life i’ve met people who have extremely controlling and toxic parents, they would tell me about it all the time
the pattern i noticed is that these people treat their parents with too much respect, as an they do what their parents tell them right away, call them “sir” or “ma’am” and treat them with overall authority, completely spineless people
also throughout my life one thing i learned is to NOT open the door for your parents to think they have authority over you, one favor will turn into a routine they will sit here and tell you to keep doing tasks for them, one example was a couple years ago where i decided to self-willingly help my parents with digging something in the yard to do something with the pool, after one time, they kept waking me up to do it. after that, i just said no to everything
if you’re spineless they will treat you accordingly, your parents only bitch you around because you let them. if you treat them like authority they will make themselves authority , you set yourself up for that
