During COVID-19, I became extremely socially incapable and had no friends or anyone to talk to except for my parents and sometimes my younger brother. This situation lasted around 4 years, in which the closest thing I had to a friend was some arrogant kid who ended up making fun of me for being ugly and indavertently gave me the mindset that got me into looksmax. Anyways, after watching the Spider-Verse movie in 2018, I ended up getting super into superhero comics and communities on Quora as they helped me cope with loneliess and not having anyone to talk to.
My father considered it childish. He only made small and ocassional comments about not understanding the appeal behind them, until he genuinely got upset over some other random unrelated shit I did and then insulted and scoffed at me for reading superhero comic books. Even so, I was obsessed with it and considered comic books to be my favorite hobby until some random kids outside also dissed me for reading a Spider-Man comic outside as they laughed and rode past me on their bicycles, at which point I got embarassed and stopped reading them entirely.
Honestly it was probably for the best given I would've been laughed at if I still read comic books when I was older, but it's still shocking to me how superficial and mean people can be when you do things that aren't considered trendy or cool.
