I remember times when HYIPs (basically, Ponzi schemes) were popular. A guy collected 80k usd on 5 days, paid 25k and disappeared with the rest. It was common. Technically, people who "invest" in that know the risks, so it's not simple "fraud". I don't know if you can label the money you receive in such schemes as "donation", or "a gift" received with no responsibility.
