The experience is shit so far I’m guessing it will get better when I can finally eat food again and don’t look like a bruised swollen zombie

The pain isn’t that bad but I have trouble sleeping because of the discomfort of the swelling and dry mouth and have been eating a starvation diet because of nausea and difficulty eating. You’ll definitely get enough pain meds including morphine that it won’t ever acutely hurt, but the discomfort of swelling and not feeling in control of your breathing is really unpleasant. I wish they could have me on parenteral nutrition for this whole time as I am definitely not eating enough and it could be impacting my recovery but they only give you iv nutrients for a few days until you’re discharged. And for the first few days, your sinuses and mouth will be filled with blood and fluid and your throat will hurt from the intubation, it’s fucking terrible. I also had horrible nightmares the first couple days after the surgery, it felt like a demonic morphine-fueled psychedelic trip. I really don’t think any of this stuff told have been a problem if I had a close friend or family member helping me out with stuff. I would say that physically the pain was a 4/10 due to swelling discomfort and breathing difficulties but psychologically it was a very difficult experience due to being alone out here in the scorching Italian summer without any loved ones except via phone calls. I can’t wait to get back to my girlfriend and kitten and my nice apartment and Korean barbecue and steaks and unagi bowls back home. Like fuck get me out of this desert I’m going insane.
