I posted something similar about this before but the only reason they'd actually want to approach more in the gym than outside of it is because 1) its societally understood that in public is somewhere you approach people (primarily girls) in 2) since the gym is the only public mixed gender environment where approaching is less common, they feel the urge/need to make it not so. This same thing happens in other similar environments (like mens IRL or online groups)

they directly benefit from this, reason being that, if they can contribute to making a space competitive and for dating, they 1) establish SMV dynamics 2) get boosted status due to SMV dynamics 3) eventually compete for the best guys in that environment through SMV manoeuvring

This is also why they might approach (or be more interested in) their looksmatch (whatever that means in 2026) in the gym but not outside it (in public, education, work, third spaces or tinder/online). well to be honest, i’ve been approached at 51 kg to 53 kg at the gym, and have had multiple girls have gym crushes on me (idfk why, brutal gymcel evisceration, and i’m sub8)

but with that girl it was different, i immediately felt like i wasn’t up to par at all. Besides the fact i was 16 and she looked well into her early 20’s.

It’s not an excuse, but in my experience, i’ve got a ton of personal insecurities that the gym helps me root out, one being my weight, which is getting better. But it impacts my ability to feel completely comfortable and dimorphic, which impacts my security with women my looksmatch and above.
