Vaseline/aquaphor on face

I have some mild acne on my face and I’ve applied aquaphor, and store brand petroleum jelly on my face before going to sleep twice because I thought it had healing properties and I woke up with less noticable acne both days. what in the jelly is doing this. Or is this placebo effect.
