There is absolutely no defensible reason for spending lots of time playing video games once you are 25+ years old. I used to play them for hours and hours everyday when I was a teenager and also fairly often while I was at high school/early 20s. However, by the time I was 27 or so I had mostly lost interest in games in favor of other, more deeper hobbies such as fiction writing, game development (and no, creating games is not the same as playing them because there is actual cognitive labor and creativity involved), cooking, etc. As of today, I spend maybe 1-2 hours a week playing games and sometimes not even this. I'm 35 years old now.
I fucking cage at this cope that only ignorant boomers think video games are a childish hobby. The stereotype of the pathetic manchild gamer exists because it reflects reality. Proper adults have more interesting shit to do than play Minecraft or some online MMO 4+ hours a day. The only people who still do this are the socially rejected autists that nobody fucking likes.
Even ignoring the social stigma, I just don't see the point of it. When you are young, you didn't really need a reason because the dopamin hit of doing shit in virtual worlds was good enough, but now as a man in my early middle age, the idea of wasting hours collecting coins in a game just seems like an enormous waste of time. Why not instead write another chapter for my novel? Or write design documents for new game mechanics? Or watch a tutorial on how to cook steak better? Just literally anything except play some stupid fucking video game that nobody except subhuman autists give a shit about.
