Views is the most important metric for popularity on this forum, not reputations.

If you have a lot of reputation points, it may mean that a small group of users (your friends and acquaintances) give you a lot of reputation over a period of time. Not that correlated with popularity. You can get 100,000 reputation from the same 50 people over a few months.

People who have threads with a lot of views though are more popular, since more people know them. This even includes lurkers (who will become future users).
