Rapé (pronounced ha-peh or rah-pay) is a holy, finely powdered nasal snuff.
Composition: It is typically made from a ground blend of Nicotiana rustica (a potent jungle tobacco known as mapacho) combined with alkaline tree ashes, medicinal plants, seeds, and barks.
Usage: It is administered ceremonially by blowing the powder into the nostrils using a V-shaped bamboo or bone pipe. A person can blow it into their own nose using a kuripe, or a shaman/partner can blow it using a larger pipe called a tepi.
Purpose: Indigenous tribes (such as the Yawanawá, Huni Kuin, and Katukina) use it for energetic cleansing, grounding, mental clarity, and spiritual alignment. It is highly grounding but is not inherently psychedelic.
