Just wanted to talk about my experience with Hydrocortisone 1% use on my nose. Currently 14 turning 15 in 2 months.
My pediatrician prescribed it to me in winter 2024 for psoriasis on my nose, and I used it for around 6 months (winter 2024 --> spring 2025, abt a year and a half ago)
Only found out a few weeks ago that it actually causes skin thinning, so this is my experience & side effects.
Benefits
↳ Works, reduced the wideness of my nose (only by a millimeter or two, but definitely noticeable)
↳ The effects have lasted to the present day even though I have not used it in a year.
Side effects
➤ Extremely thin skin on the bridge/top part of my nose (because i had no knowledge of the skin thinning & it was prescribed for my whole nose)
➤ Visible red cracks (looks like broken capillaries) on the top of my nose --> would include a photo but its practically invisible on my phone camera
➤ Reduced the tolerance to the sun for my nose. If I go out in the sun, even with sunscreen, my nose gets badly burnt & extremely oily
➤ In addition to oiliness, my nose & nostrils are now incredibly oily majority of the time and prone to blackheads (all over my nose). Never had this issue before using the cream (but I was 13 and not going through puberty, so maybe hormones/genetics play a part)
➤ My nostrils are not oily, but they do have blackheads all over them which are incredibly hard to remove, at least for me since you can't put much pressure on them.
TLDR/Conclusion
It will reduce nose volume, effects last (even though its been 1.5+ years), but be careful about where you put it (nostrils only), and don't put too much of it or use it for too long like I did. You can even let it sit in and then dab off the extra with kleenex/tissues.
Lmk if you have any questions abt my experience.
