Scenario A:

Average person unknowing of the Pilates / social signalling pill

“Oh, I started Pilates a few months ago. My back was sore from sitting at a desk. Honestly, it’s harder than it looks. I still go to the gym too. It helps my posture. How was your weekend?”

1785314573754

Scenario B is where it gets brutal and cutthroat:

🗣️🗣️

So I did Pilates before work this morning. I almost skipped cause it’s been manic at the office, but I hate missing my Wednesday class.” “Then I grabbed an oat flat white before heading into the firm”.

been so busy since the deal closed, but I’m trying to protect my mornings.”

And notice, the implied message. “I am busy but balanced”

guest pass = pedo hanging at a playground

The whole point is you need to be embedded in the network - and the Pilates is just the signalling

interesting
Thank you! Appreciate it. It’s a phenomenon

Social class stuff will completely take over old looks blackpill stuff in years to come

Completely inevitable

I don’t think it will take over looks by any means but this is obviously not something we can control. I think social class is incredibly important nonetheless and I already see literally near perfect girls like your dream girl bro going for social class and beta buxx
Your thread was something I expected to be stupid and when i finished reading it I thought i completely wasted my time but after rereading i noticed it’s a very interesting thing

For example:

Same words: “I did Pilates this morning.”

Panel A

  • Desk worker
  • “My physio told me my back was cooked.”
  • Wore a 10-year-old T-shirt.
  • Forgot to bring water.

Panel B

  • Corporate associate
  • Matching Alo set.
  • Erewhon/Starbucks cup.
  • “Trying to protect my mornings.”
  • Posts mirror selfie.
  • Caption: Balance.

Bottom caption:

It’s not the exercise. It’s the narrative.

Pilates

It’s not the exercise, it’s the narrative.

Nail that slogan into your head and you’ll understand.

You’re not training them new physical exercises. You’re an enforcer making their high socioeconomic “inconspicuous” class signalling, legible.

Basically. High SES Pilates social class maxxers want the folllowing.

1) Seem successful but BALANCED (social class and CALM are highly correlated)
2) Be apart of an exclusive group (Pilates class -> head to the prestige firm with flat white)
3) show that you are “health” conscious while really maxxing out your image before having to put on corporate clothes for the day
4) buy oat flat white because it’s more ethical (don’t mention more expensive tho). Virtue signalling achieved
5) it’s one massive signalling ritual with many normies locked out economically and socially. That’s why it’s thrilling for them

It's not a status signalling tool though. It's very nuanced.

I understand it used to be a conspicuous high class sport and it's all over Ralph Lauren advertisements.

But the thing with Pilates is, anyone can do it, but the signalling effect only works for those with high social class. Two different outcomes.

Like Chad and a Sub5 both cold approaching. Exact same behaviour, different effect.

Wellness no longer sells health. It sells the identity of being the kind of person who deserves to be healthy.
  • Health
  • Beauty
  • Virtue
  • Wealth
  • Self-control
  • Social status

I read a very interesting piece on how wellness and health is the new signal that wealthy people are trying to use. A rich person has free time to hit the gym and hire a nutritionist, buy organic food, get a chef, and buy supplements and biohack.:Comfy::Comfy:

Conspicuous consumption itself has become low class (even since like 2010-2011 era).

Now if you buy anything without a return on, economic capital, social capital, cultural capital, virtue/belonging, or long term compounding advantage/options; it's seen as low class - even if it's "designer gear".

Even a high class person buying designer is NOT a high class move anymore.

Wellness is often sold as if it were universally attainable, when privilege is one of its biggest ingredients. Time, money, flexible work, safe neighbourhoods, good food, access to boutique fitness and healthcare all make "wellness" easier. The industry then repackages many of those advantages as personal virtue

Maybe. But that's still conspicuous. Inconspicuous consumption would relate to investments in fitness/social club memberships, wellness memberships, higher education etc. That's where the real money is going.
